August 13 - August 18

What is your child learning this week?
This week students will receive their first homework packet and spelling words. Students are expected to complete at least 16 math problems but additional problems are encouraged. Spelling words should be practiced every night using the spelling menu (this can be completed on the given homework packet sheet or on a separate sheet that is stapled to the packet). During class time we will start our formal phonics lessons that correlate with the 6 phonics blend spelling words. This week we are focusing on "L" blends. In Reading students will continue to work on "Read to Self" and we will attempt "Read to Someone" after achieving 12 minutes of focused independent reading. During Math, students will learn to read and create bar graphs and tally charts as well as collect and understand data. All First Grade students will complete a "cold" narrative writing sample to use as a baseline of current writing ability. In Science we will continue to learn about precipitation, weather, and seasons.

Learning Commons Visit - Monday, August 13th
Guidance - Thursday, August 16th
Friday - Light Bulb Lab (Creative Thinking Class all First Grade students participate in through    December)

*Remember to check your child's agenda each night for their reflection and clip color (please be patient as we continue to write down full reflections and remember clip color-if you ever have any questions please don't hesitate to ask). Also empty and review papers in their Take Home Folder each day.

*Please send your child with a healthy snack each day - I am fine with students having two snacks due to our very late 11:54 lunch time if they communicate that they are hungry throughout the morning*

Wish List:
Hand soap
