January 17-20

Friday, January 20th is our 100th day of school! It is crazy how this year has flown by! Along with participating in several fun 100th day centers and activities, students are welcome to dress up as a 100 year old person. Some ideas to help your child look like a 100 year old might be to add some baby powder to their hair or wear a pair of "granny" glasses. I cant wait to see my class of elderly students! :)
*Please don't forget to send in the designated snack your child was assigned for 100 day snack mix*

What is Your Child Learning this Week?
In Math we will continue our unit on one more one less and 10 more 10 less.  The students will need to know how to add and subtract 10 mentally and fluently. During Phonics and reading we will be working with words that have the long O sound. In Reading I will continue to be pulling groups daily to focus on reading strategies, fluency and comprehension. Our new writing unit for this quarter is opinion writing. We will start the week off with Hero writing and then move into the structure of an opinion piece. In Social Studies we will continue to be learning about location and where we live on our planet. Thank you to everyone who has already helped their child write down their address in a agenda. We will be using those this week. To wrap up our week, we will have our first guidance lesson with our new counselor!

Important Dates:
Monday, January 16th: NO SCHOOL MLK DAY
Tuesday, January 17th: Penny Wars begin.  Bring in that loose change and help out the Foundation.
