What is your child learning this week?
Last Friday during Math time we finished up our unit on Graphing with a fun Skittles Graphing activity. This week we will begin learning about Place Value. Students will be working with tens and ones to understand how numbers are made and the importance of place value. During our pre-test last week, there were several students who wrote "20" as "02." This unit will help students understand why the 2 in 20 needs to come first. Once students master this concept they will able to apply it to all numbers (2-digit). During Reading we will continue to work on learning and implementing the Daily 5 centers. Thus far we have completed 10min of independent reading stamina. If we can make it to 12 Monday we will begin to start Read to Someone. In Science we will continue to be learning about weather and the four seasons. Thursday we will visit the Science Lab to create fun weather instruments. In Social Studies we will begin the unit "Me on the Map." During this unit, students will be learning about where they are in the world. Students need to know their address - please write it (or assist them in writing it) on the back of the front cover of their agenda. In writing we will start to discuss our First Grade expectations (capital letters, periods, sounding out words when spelling, trying their best, etc.) Finally, I will be pulling students throughout the week to assess them on our fFrst Grade sight words. By the end of the year they need to know all 200.
